Closing the gender gap in financial literacy

Context

RMIT Apple Foundation Program is a four week intensive program where I learned how to code with Apple's programming language Swift UI, and used that to bring to life our digital solution to the problem of building financial literacy.

Challenge

Invited to dive deep on less spoken social inequalities, we found that young women in Australia tested for lower rates of basic financial literacy compared to men. Additionally, women were unlikely to know that their gap in financial literacy existed.

This presented a unique challenge of not only closing the gap, but addressing the lower desire for women to participate in financial education.

Outcome

Designed and developed a financial education mobile app that went beyond explaining financial jargon – but aimed to build a foundation of understanding for the importance and impact of being financially literate.

On a technical level: Designed and developed several working flows in Xcode (hand-coded!) for a the iOS app, presenting the product and prototype to stakeholders at RMIT and Apple.
